Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Liverpool will check on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge over the next two days ahead of Liverpool's trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

The England international sustained a small hamstring strain during the Reds' 3-2 victory over Manchester City on April 13 and was subsequently withdrawn from action midway through the second half.

The 24-year-old did not travel to Norwich City for the following fixture; however, he returned as a 58th-minute substitute as Rodgers' side slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

Reporters asked the manager for an update on Sturridge's condition during his pre-match press conference on Friday, and Rodgers revealed the forward will now be assessed to determine his role on Monday.

"We'll see over the next 48 hours," said the Northern Irishman. "He hadn't trained since he got injured in the [Manchester City game], so it was a bit much [against Chelsea].

"He had worked really hard to get back and we needed something on the bench that could support us and help us in the game but unfortunately, it wasn't to be.

"But he's certainly in a much better place. He's worked tirelessly this week with the medical team. He re-joins the group and we'll see how he is come Monday."
