Anfield stood still for a poignant minute's silence to remember the 96 fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough before Liverpool's clash with Manchester City kicked off on Sunday.

The Reds' home ground will commemorate the disaster, which occurred on April 15, 1989, with an annual memorial service on Tuesday, in the year of the 25th anniversary since the tragedy unfolded.

Ahead of that, though, the Liverpool players and staff, their opposite numbers from City and the thousands of fans in attendance paused to pay their respects, which can be watched below.

As with all fixtures in England across this weekend, the encounter also began seven minutes after the originally scheduled start time as an additional tribute to the 96 before next week's anniversary, while the Kop formed a fitting mosaic before the game got underway.
