Donate a scarf in tribute to the 96
Liverpool Football Club is encouraging sports fans to join hundreds of others from around the world in donating a scarf to remember the 96 supporters who lost their lives at Hillsborough.
Earlier this month, LFC launched a campaign to create a global sign of unity at the annual memorial service on Tuesday, April 15, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the disaster.
The club are asking fans, followers and institutions of any sport - not just football - to donate a scarf, with all received to be laid out on the pitch at Anfield on the day of the service in the shape of the number '96'.
Hundreds of scarves have already been received, bearing club emblems and logos from teams at every corner of the globe, and a selection can be seen by clicking through the image slideshow below.
Anybody wishing to make a donation is also encouraged to write a personal note to the Hillsborough families on their chosen item, as an additional sign of support in the 25th year since the tragedy occurred.
There are 10 days remaining to submit a scarf from any sport; to guarantee inclusion in the pitch display during the memorial service on April 15, donations must be received by Tuesday, April 8.
All donated scarves should be sent to: Hillsborough Scarves, 20 Chapel Street, Liverpool, L3 9AG.
International supporters are advised to check international postage times, costs and import logistics ahead of sending their donation; the club will not be able to pay for postage of donated scarves.
After the service, the club's official charity, the Liverpool FC Foundation, will donate all scarves to local good causes, including homeless charities, along with a signed item of LFC memorabilia. Therefore, the club unfortunately will not be able to return donated scarves.
