New Liverpool Ladies signing Lucy Staniforth has revealed why she couldn't turn down the lure of Liverpool once Matt Beard pounced to bring her to the Women's Super League Champions.

The England U23 international was previously with Bristol Academy, who finished as runners-up to the Reds in the race for the title last season.

After putting pen to paper on a deal to sign for the Reds on Wednesday, Liverpoolfc.com caught up with Staniforth on her move to Anfield:

Lucy, welcome to Liverpool FC how does it feel to be here?

It's really exciting. This is a special day for me and I can't wait to get started.

A great chance to play for Liverpool like you say but your old club Bristol Academy finished second in the league behind the Reds last season. How difficult a decision was it to leave there?

It was an incredibly difficult decision and it wasn't something I'd made at the drop of the hat. I'd given it a lot of thought and I weighed up what I could get at Bristol and then what I could get at Liverpool as well, and with the players they have got here it was just too much to turn down. I couldn't turn it down.

You must be excited at the prospect of playing with the WSL Champions?

Definitely. Bristol did well last year and it was hard to leave them but with the calibre of players Liverpool have got here as well as the hands on coaching and the professionalism the whole club has got it's just something that is not normally there for women's football, so for me to be able to access that is amazing.

Liverpool this season are also competing in the Women's Champions League. How much are you looking forward to that and is that something you will be trying to win with Liverpool this season?

Of course. Champions League is something that you think of in the very distant future but it very rarely comes about, so for me to be able to say I will be playing Champions League football this year is going to be amazing. Hopefully I can give Liverpool something on the pitch that is going to help them get to the final, get them to where we should be and I don't see why we can't get there.

Many of the players here at Liverpool spoke at the end of last season about the great team spirit they have at Liverpool Ladies. Is that something that gave you an extra incentive to come here for that reason?

Definitely. It always makes it easier joining a new team if the team spirit is good and there's a good group of girls and there is in this team. Bristol had a really good team spirit as well and that's something that you find in good teams. If you have a good team spirit then you are going to achieve, like Liverpool did last season.

You're an attacking midfielder, what do you feel you can offer this team?

I suppose I'm quite a direct player and I like to get into the box and get shots on target, sometimes (laughs). Hopefully I can add a bit of dynamic mix to the midfield.

You are only 21 but already you are an experienced international player having played for the England U23 team. What sort of role do you think you can play for Liverpool?

I hope I can play a big role but obviously that's down to the manager and where he sees me fitting into the team. I hope I can do them justice and I really want to get back playing and have a successful season on the pitch.

You mentioned being back playing as you picked up a serious knee injury playing for Bristol last season. How is it now?

It's really good. I'm feeling really strong and I'm feeling really confident with it, touch wood. So hopefully it's just going to go from strength to strength and I can get back playing soon and get back on the pitch.

Are you back in training yet?

Yes. I trained with full contact on Tuesday and for me that's a big stepping stone and hopefully I can get some minutes in the up and coming friendlies.

You've already met all of the girls, what have they been like with you?

They've been really nice. I've got some really close friends in the team anyway. Lucy Bronze is a really good friend of mine and we've played football together since we were 12 so for me that's made it even easier being here.
