Brendan Rodgers conceded Liverpool were disappointed not to take three points home from the Hawthorns on Sunday – but insisted the Reds are still on course for a strong finish this season.

Victor Anichebe's 67th-minute equaliser meant Rodgers' side drew the game 1-1 and failed to capitalise on Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United dropping points in their Saturday fixtures.

However, Liverpool retain fourth place in the Barclays Premier League, having collected 12 more points and scored 17 more goals than at the corresponding stage last season.

Reflecting on the weekend's stalemate against West Bromwich Albion, the manager urged a sense of perspective, but admitted: "There's initial disappointment after the game.

"I thought we played well in the first half. These games aren't easy, especially away from home in the Premier League. But I thought we were very comfortable in the game. We went 1-0 up with an outstanding goal. It was a very good team goal.

"There weren't too many chances, but I thought we were in control. When they scored, the momentum shifted a little bit and we had to stay strong and resolute. We're obviously disappointed because we had control.

"It was a game that, of course, we wanted to win and a game that we're disappointed we didn't win. But overall, it's a point further away from our rivals.

"We're still in a good position. We've been looking to average two points per game this season. This was the fifth game in a block of five and we've gone over our target, by taking 11 points from a possible 15."
