Rodgers update on Lucas fitness
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Lucas Leiva will be assessed over the next 48 hours after the Brazilian sustained a knock to his knee during Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Lucas watched from the substitutes' bench as the Reds shipped two first-half goals at Anfield, with Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke both notching in front of the Kop.
However, Daniel Sturridge handed the home side a lifeline when he dinked over Brad Guzan after neat build-up play to make it 2-1 on the verge of half-time.
Rodgers introduced Lucas at the interval in place of compatriot Philippe Coutinho and the midfielder exerted a controlling influence in the middle of the park.
Steven Gerrard levelled proceedings from the penalty spot; however, with the Reds threatening a third, Lucas was caught up in a collision and forced to withdraw in the 66th minute.
"He clashed knees with an opponent, so we'll just see how he is," Rodgers told reporters after the final whistle.
"He just felt a little click in his knee. Hopefully it's not too serious. We'll not know for the next 24 to 48 hours."
