Brendan Rodgers insists he will look closely at Liverpool's second-half performance against Everton on Saturday, in order to prepare his side for a return to winning ways against Hull at the weekend.

The Reds went into the interval in the Merseyside derby with a 2-1 lead thanks to strikes from Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez.

Goodison Park came to life after the restart as Romelu Lukaku powered home two goals to take the Blues to within touching distance of a famous win.

However, Daniel Sturridge's last-gasp intervention meant the spoils were shared after a pulsating clash finished 3-3.

While Rodgers was pleased with a point away from home against the Reds' fierce rivals, he's keen to pinpoint areas for improvement throughout the week.

"We'll go away and analyse the game over the next couple of days," the boss told Liverpoolfc.com. "When you're in front, of course you want to be better.

"But we'll look at the aspects and analyse parts of the game in that second half. We didn't pass the ball well enough and our positioning maybe didn't allow us to do that.

"But I'll also go away looking at my team and thinking again that we've taken another step forward in our mentality and our quality.

"We've shown that we are going to be able to go anywhere this season and be very strong."

It was the manager's third taste of the fixture - and his second visit to the home of the Blues as Liverpool boss.

First time around, Rodgers oversaw a lively 2-2 draw; however, Saturday's encounter went one further as the two sides played out one of the most enthralling derbies in recent times.

Rodgers said: "It was a mixture of emotions. There was everything; joy, happiness and disappointment.

"When you come to a rival like Everton, who have been hard to beat at home, and you show a lot of good moments in the game, it's pleasing.

"It's important also that you don't lose any ground on your rivals. So to come here and be ahead in the game and then go behind, then to show the level of fight and resilience was very pleasing.

"A point away from home against our rival is never too bad and we had some great moments in the game.

"At 2-1, we should have gone 3-1 up, but we didn't. We then lost control of the game for about 10 or 12 minutes and we gave the ball away too cheaply, which we need to be better at under pressure.

"But we picked ourselves up and our mentality was very strong. We had that desire to keep going and that's going to be something that will be very important if we're going to succeed."
