The return to action of Philippe Coutinho will significantly bolster Liverpool's attacking firepower, Brendan Rodgers believes.

The Brazilian made his comeback from injury as a substitute in last weekend's defeat at Arsenal and is in contention to feature in today's clash with Fulham at Anfield.

Rodgers is eager for his midfield players to assist Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in the goalscoring stakes - and he's confident Coutinho can find the back of the net on a regular basis to aid the Reds' push for a top-four finish.

"There's no doubt it's an area we need to get more goals from," the manager told the Liverpool Echo.

"That's something we need to improve on. We have the goalscorers up front and I think Coutinho coming back will help with that as he will get goals for us. He adds a real genuine quality to our game.

"Jordan Henderson will get goals as well this season. It's not a concern for me.

"We are still up there as one of the top scorers in the division but I still think we've got goals to come from other areas for sure."

Coutinho returns to a Liverpool side that have deployed a change in formation in recent weeks, with Rodgers opting for a 3-5-2 line-up.

The manager, however, is confident the 21-year-old will flourish in any system.

Rodgers said: "I think Coutinho can play wherever. Whatever system you play, he can play in it. He will always find a way to get the solutions in a game.

"When he plays in a flexible 4-4-2 we encourage him to drift so he's not outside, he's more inside, and makes up the numerical superiority in midfield.

"He can also play as the No.10 as we've seen before. I think it's just having him on the field which is the most important aspect of Philippe Coutinho.

"This is a player who has got a high level of technical ability and a strong personality.

"He had only been back training for a few days but I thought he was excellent when he came on against Arsenal last weekend.

"We're delighted to have him back. He's had another good week's training under his belt and he's certainly fit enough to start if we decide to make that decision."
