Colin Pascoe has revealed he would take a whole host of 1-0 wins between now and the end of the season if it meant Liverpool achieved their goal of reaching the Champions League.

The Reds lead the way at the summit of the Barclays Premier League after three straight victories - all of which came by one goal.

And while Brendan Rodgers always wants his side to play creative, flowing football and try to score a lot of goals, the assistant boss insists keeping a clean sheet can be just as important.

"It has been a fantastic start for us," Pascoe told Liverpoolfc.com.

"For our first game we knew Stoke would be organised and hard to break down but we played well and created a lot of chances.

"Villa is always a difficult place to go and I'm sure a lot of teams will find that a hard place to get a result. Then to beat Manchester United on Sunday was another great result for us.

"Our message to the players after the United game was just about maintaining standards. We stuck to our standards for the first three games and it's important now not to drop them after the international break.

"People have spoken about the way we have passed and moved the ball but again it's about that determination not to get beat.

"We have shown with our three clean sheets how well organised and determined we are and we don't want anyone to get through us and score.

"We are always looking to improve. As a player you look at yourself and you always want to improve and as a coach we always go through the match with the match analysis guys to study all different aspects of the game.

"We always look at how many chances we create during a game - but, to be honest, I'd take 35 1-0 wins any day."

The campaign is currently in the midst of a two-week hiatus due to internationals.

While some people might consider the break to have come at a bad time for Liverpool after the way they have started the season, Pascoe feels it does have its advantages.

He added: "You want the rhythm to keep flowing because we've made a good start, but it gives the opportunity for people like Joe Allen and Kolo Toure - who have been out injured - to be back in time for the next game.

"We just keep our fingers crossed we don't pick up any injuries and we'll also look out for how many minutes the lads play for as well."
