Jamie Carragher has given Liverpool's acquisition of Kolo Toure the thumbs-up and believes he'll be a shrewd signing by Brendan Rodgers.

The Ivorian completed his free transfer from Manchester City earlier this month to bolster the Reds' defensive ranks, which were depleted following the retirement of Carragher at the end of last season.

And the man Toure will replace believes the deal represents a good piece of business by the club.

"[His key attributes are] his experience and his winning mentality," Carragher told LFC TV at the recent Steven Gerrard Foundation golf tournament in Portugal.

"He was part of the 'Invincibles' at Arsenal and to have been is an achievement in itself.

"He's been at Man City and now he's come to Liverpool - and he'll add something, of course he will.

"He can play centre-back, he can play in a three at the back and at full-back in an emergency.

"It's a very good signing by the manager of the club."
