Charlie Adam is confident a lively Tynecastle atmosphere won't put Liverpool off in their attempts to secure a positive Europa League play-off first-leg result against Hearts tonight.

Adam has experience of playing at the stadium from his days at Rangers and admits the noise generated by the home fans always makes for a tough test.

Nonetheless, he's in no doubt the Reds have what it takes to collect the outcome they desire.

Adam told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's going to be a tough match.

"When I played here with Rangers, it was always a tough stadium to come to and the fans are right beside the pitch.

"But if we apply ourselves right, we know what we can do and we should be alright. Hopefully we can win the game and take it back to Anfield for the second leg."

Liverpool's trip to Edinburgh comes just days before the mouth-watering showdown with Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday - but Adam insists no-one within the camp is thinking about the visit of the Barclays Premier League title holders just yet.

He added: "It's important we get back to winning ways and we can only win our next game, which is Hearts.

"Once that's out of the way, then we'll worry about Man City. For us as a group of players, we're only concerned about the next game."

Adam is hopeful of figuring against Hearts having been included in the 19-man squad that departed John Lennon airport on Wednesday.

The Scotland midfielder admits he's eager to use any opportunity as a chance to impress the boss - particularly with family and friends watching on from the stands.

"If the opportunity comes, I want to try and carry on what I did in pre-season and for Scotland last week," he said. "The manager will make that decision and when the time comes, I'll be ready to go.

"It'll be nice to see my family and friends. They get to watch me in Liverpool quite a bit, but it's not very often I get to come up to Scotland and play, so it's great to come back.

"But the most important thing is we win the game and hopefully I can be a part of it."
