Craig Bellamy has spoken about how establishing a children's charity in Sierra Leone has helped transform his life.

In a documentary shown on ITV4 on Tuesday evening, the Liverpool striker revealed why he feels so committed to helping youngsters in a country still recovering from a brutal civil war.

"I've never done a documentary before, I felt totally out of my comfort zone but it was something that had to be done," said the Welshman.

"I'm a private man - who you see on the pitch is not who I am off it - so making this has been a learning experience for me as well."

Established in 2007, the Craig Bellamy Foundation is a charity offering under-privileged children in Sierra Leone the chance to reach their potential through sport and education.
