Kenny Dalglish believes Liverpool fans can once again give his side the edge as they look to repeat their cup heroics against Manchester United this weekend.

Dalglish thinks the supporters made a tangible contribution to our Carling Cup semi-final triumph over Manchester City on Wednesday.

Now he wants more of the same when the FA Cup fourth round contest gets underway at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime.

"The performance from everybody who's got a feeling towards Liverpool Football Club on Wednesday night was fantastic," the boss told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"The supporters were magnificent. They kept the players going, and the players kept them going. They both helped each other.

"Over the two legs we were certainly the better side and we deserved to go through.

"We just need everybody to be at the same level on and off the pitch on Saturday.

"If we play like that and get the support we got, we'll give ourselves a better chance of progressing in the FA Cup."

Craig Bellamy hogged the headlines by scoring the decisive goal against former team City, with Steven Gerrard claiming the Welshman's impact at the club this season is similar to that made by fellow free transfer Gary McAllister in the 2001 treble campaign.

But Dalglish - who hopes to welcome back Jay Spearing for the United clash - insists his squad is full of potential heroes.

"Craig was fantastic the other night," said the Scot. "Different people choose different ways to show their appreciation and respect, and if Steven chooses Gary Mac then that's fine. But Bellers just has to be himself and do what he's done.

"His performance gave everyone else in the team a lift, it gave the crowd a lift - everybody.

"But it's not only Craig who can do that, there are other people in the team who can. He is the one who seemed to grab the headlines after his performance on Wednesday, which is fantastic for him and great for us, but come Saturday it might be someone else.

"The most important thing for us is that as a team we all stick together. There's always going to be someone who's going to get more publicity or headlines than someone else, but we don't have to start believing the things we read in the papers - we just get on with it and concentrate on our game, and make sure that as a team we're going to be successful.

"Jay looks a lot better than he was, so we might be adding to the squad rather than reducing it."

Liverpool will contest the Carling Cup final against Cardiff City at Wembley on February 26.

Before that comes two games against Manchester United as well as important league meetings with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur.

Dalglish is keen for any thoughts of Wembley to be temporarily forgotten.

He said: "Getting to Wembley is always a very pleasant experience but we've got a lot of games between now and then. We can't get carried away with it, we can't let it block our real intention, which is to compete in every single game we play in.

"We've got our reward, but this is now a different challenge and it's one we've got to rise to if we want to progress in the FA Cup."
