The funeral of former Liverpool star, Laurie Hughes will take place in Sefton later this afternoon.

The service for the ex-defender, who passed away last week at the age of 87, will commence at 3.20pm at Thornton Crematorium.

Laurie's family have welcomed the attendance of any supporters wishing to pay their respects and Ian Callaghan will be there to represent the club.

A member of the title-winning team of 1946-47, Laurie became the first ever red to appear at a World Cup finals when he represented England back in 1950.
