Jose Enrique is hoping to add his name to the legion of Spanish greats who have graced Anfield over the years.

The likes of Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres all established themselves as world-class players at Anfield, while stars such as Luis Garcia and Alvaro Arbeloa greatly enhanced their reputations in becoming firm favourites amongst Kopites.

"It's amazing that a lot of Spanish players have played here and I am very proud to be the latest one," Enrique told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Pepe was already here of course and there are about six or seven players who also speak Spanish so that is great for me.

"I just want to do my best and give 100 per cent for this club to try and help us win something."

A move to Anfield could improve the No.3's chances of becoming a Spanish international, but he has no hesitation when it comes to describing his main ambition for this season.

Enrique added: "It would be fantastic to get into the Spain squad because for every player it's a dream to play for your country, but my first priority is Liverpool and helping us get back into the top four this year."

Meanwhile, Enrique believes Liverpool can make the 2011-12 campaign a memorable one if they replicate their first-half display against Sunderland for the entire 90 minutes.

The Spaniard was handed an instant debut by Kenny Dalglish and settled into the left-back slot comfortably with an impressive outing.

"It was an amazing feeling for me to put the red shirt on for the first time because this is a fantastic club," he said.

"When the manager told me I was starting I called up my family because they all wanted to watch the game.

"In the first half we played some unbelievable stuff and we need to do that for 90 minutes. If we can do that then we can beat anyone.

"We want to get back into the top four this season and if we could win the Premier League that would be fantastic, but we have to be realistic. A lot of teams have spent a lot of money and for me this league is the most competitive one in the world.

"Seven teams could finish in the top four but we want to be there and we will do everything we can to make that possible."

Enrique also spoke of his delight at playing in front of the Kop for the first time in a red shirt.

"It was an amazing experience to play in front of the Newcastle fans because we had 45,000 people every game and it is the same here at Anfield.

"I remember playing here for Newcastle last season and the Liverpool fans were fantastic.

"It's an amazing feeling when you walk out onto the pitch and the crowd sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' before kick-off."
