Liverpool have been drawn away to Exeter City in the second round of the Carling Cup.

The Reds will travel to St James' Park for the clash with the League One club in the week commencing August 22.

Liverpool last met Exeter in a two-legged League Cup second round tie in 1981 en route to winning the tournament.

After running out 5-0 winners in the first leg at Anfield courtesy of goals from Ian Rush (2), Kenny Dalglish, Terry McDermott and Ronnie Whelan, the Reds went one better at St James' Park as they clinched a six-goal success.

Rush again fired a brace, while Dalglish was also on target once more to add to strikes from Phil Neal, Kevin Sheedy and an own goal by Nicky Marker.
