A group of Liverpool FC employees attended North Liverpool Foodbank last week to help prepare food parcels for local residents in need.

Eight members of staff joined forces with foodbank volunteers, helping out in a number of areas including hospitality, packing and customer interaction.

As part of its dedication to tackle food poverty, LFC’s Red Neighbours programme has been an advocate of the Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative throughout the season, holding collections at 18 home games and receiving enough donated food to feed more than 700 people.

All food items collected at Anfield are donated to the North Liverpool Foodbank, which is supported by The Trussell Trust, and made into three-day emergency food parcels for people in crisis in the L4, L5 and L6 areas.

North Liverpool Foodbank coordinator Vicky Ponsonby said: “We can’t thank LFC enough for their help and support, it has been exceptional.

“The volunteers showed empathy, respect and love to the people in crisis and it is appreciated deeply by everyone here.

“It blows me away when I see corporate groups get involved as much as LFC have and we look forward to working with them again soon.”

The Red Neighbours programme supports local residents and schools in the Anfield community, focusing on four key areas of need - food poverty and education; support for the elderly community; encouraging a physically active community; and creating memorable experiences for young people.
