Liverpool duo Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana took part in a mandarin language lesson with pupils from Four Oaks Community Primary School in Anfield recently to celebrate Chinese New Year.

The England internationals, who made the visit as part of the club’s ‘Red Neighbours’ programme, had their language skills put to the test by the youngsters during their mandarin lesson.

The pair learned a number of key phrases in the lesson including ‘Hello’, ‘How are you?’ and ‘My name is’ – as well as some LFC-related sayings such as ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘Come on you Reds’.

Sara Robinson, head teacher at Four Oaks Community Primary School, said: “It was fantastic to be able to welcome Nathaniel and Adam to Four Oaks Community Primary School to join in with a mandarin language lesson to celebrate Chinese New Year.

“They really got involved in the lesson and reiterated the importance of getting a good education to the children.”

Reds full-back Clyne added: “Adam and I really enjoyed taking part in the mandarin lesson with the children ahead of Chinese New Year. We were very impressed by their standard of mandarin so we will have to get practising!”

The ‘Red Neighbours’ programme supports local residents and schools in the Anfield community. The programme focuses on four key areas as a result of extensive research with key people who live and work in Anfield. These areas include: food poverty and education; support for the elderly community; encouraging a physically active community; and creating memorable experiences for young people.
