The Liverpool FC and Manchester United legends teams have announced further players for their forthcoming Swedish clash, set to be played next month.

The exciting charity match to benefit the Liverpool FC Foundation and Manchester United Foundation has further bolstered the roster of stars that will take to the pitch for the special fixture at the Friends Arena in Stockholm on Thursday September 3.

The Liverpool FC Legends team will be managed by all-time top goalscorer Ian Rush, with Robbie Fowler as captain.

Joining them will be former players Jason McAteer, Dietmar Hamann, Sander Westerveld, Phil Babb, Stephane Henchoz, Luis Garcia, Vladimir Smicer, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Patrik Berger, Jerzy Dudek, David Thompson, Salif Diao, Steve Harkness and Abel Xavier.

Reds ambassador Rush said: “These matches are notorious for their competitive rivalry and this game will be no exception.

“The lads are all looking forward to pulling the boots back on, and as manager I’ll personally be making sure they give it their all when they step onto that pitch.”

Legendary midfielder Bryan Robson will manage the Manchester United Legends, with MU Foundation trustee Denis Irwin taking the captain’s armband.

They will be joined on the pitch by former United stars including Dwight Yorke, Ronny Johnsen, Quinton Fortune, Russell Beardsmore, Clayton Blackmore, Dion Dublin, Lee Martin, Karel Poborsky, Ben Thornley and Swedish winger Jesper Blomqvist.

Skipper Irwin, who made 529 appearances for United, is particularly excited to take part in the occasion.

He said: “As former players we always look forward to meeting back up to play in these matches and I’m sure this will be a good competitive match.

“I’m a trustee for the Manchester United Foundation and we do a lot of work in the local community, so it’s great that we have matches to raise funds for great causes.”

Proceeds will be going to the Liverpool FC Foundation and the Manchester United Foundation to help support the two charities’ community projects.
