Liverpool U18s ended a successful pre-season training camp in Germany with a spirited display as they were edged out 4-3 by Bayern Munich.

Neil Critchley’s young side played some great football against experienced opposition and Liam Millar was a double marksman with Rhian Brewster also on the mark.

“It was an unbelievable game and we did so well against Bayern Munich’s U19 team,” Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We played ever so well in the second half and had enough chances to have won it, never mind losing the game, so there was a lot of encouragement for us to take.”

During the tour, Critchley’s charges recorded a 3-2 win over FC Nurnberg with Millar, Kris Owens and Curtis Jones on the mark, and also lost 3-1 to Augsburg with Brewster netting a consolation.

Reflecting on the pre-season training camp in Germany, he added: “It was a great training camp for us and we were really well looked after.

“We had three good games against some quality opposition and the boys applied themselves very well.

“It’s always good to get the boys together and during these trips they are representing Liverpool FC and pick up some really good habits which is so important for their development.”

Michael Beale's U23 side are in action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Welsh Premier League outfit Rhyl at the Corbett Sports Stadium in a pre-season friendly at 2pm BST.
