Liverpool U21s missed a succession of chances as they were held to a goalless draw by Fleetwood Town in a friendly encounter on Thursday afternoon.

The game was played at Fleetwood’s brand new training facility and the likes of Joao Carlos Teixeira, Cameron Brannagan, Tiago Ilori and Jose Enrique were all involved.

Teixeira hit the underside of the bar with a brilliant effort, Ryan Kent had two great opportunities and Jerome Sinclair also went close, but the young Reds just couldn’t score.

Reflecting on the draw, U21s boss Michael Beale told Liverpoolfc.com: “It was a very good exercise for us and important for the lads to get some match practice.

“It was nice to help Fleetwood out and we have a good relationship with them.

“We had so many chances in the game but we just couldn’t put the ball into the net. Joao was unlucky when he hit the underside of the bar, the ball might have crossed the line but it was hard to say.

“Defensively we were very good and Tiago and Lloyd Jones were excellent.”
