Ryan Kent is certain his temporary spell away from Liverpool will benefit him a great deal as he takes his first steps into playing senior football.

After impressing during pre-season for Brendan Rodgers’ first team, the 18-year-old has made the move to Coventry City for a taste of League One football until January.

The Oldham-born youngster is now hoping experiences of playing in a new environment can go a long way towards helping him achieve his long-term goal, which is to make the grade at Anfield.

"Senior football is the next step I needed in my career, so I just want to make an impact in the team and see where that takes me," said Kent.

"I’m hoping to gain a lot of experience from being around first-team football on and off the pitch and hopefully I can get some game time.

"I’ll get a feel of what the philosophy and style is playing for a different team and hopefully I can bring that [experience] back to Liverpool."

Kent was the subject of enquiries from numerous clubs looking to snap him up on loan, but the chance to play League One football was something that proved to be a big attraction for him.

He added: "Coventry is a club with a good pedigree, a lot of good players and good backroom staff, with a good manager, and I’m looking forward to getting started now.

"I’ve been told lots of good things by the staff at Liverpool about Coventry City.

"I know a few of the lads from the U21s setup who I’ve played with previously, and I know Bryn Morris from playing with England U20s.

"They are all good lads who have made me very welcome."

Kent could make his Sky Blues debut in Saturday’s away clash at Scunthorpe United, and he is under no illusions as to how different League One will be to U21 football.

He said: "I expect it to be a lot more physical and a higher tempo to what I’ve been used to.

"It will be a lot quicker and you don’t get as much time on the ball as you do playing U21s football, but I’m looking forward to it."
