Euro 2020: Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara reach last 16

Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara progressed to the Euro 2020 knockout stages with Portugal and Spain respectively on Wednesday.

Jota started Portugal’s final Group F fixture, against France in Budapest, and featured for the whole of the 2-2 draw.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema traded braces as both sides booked their passage to the last 16, with the French finishing first in the section and Portugal third.

Jota and his national teammates will therefore face Belgium on Sunday night.

Earlier in the day, Thiago was introduced from the bench on 71 minutes as Spain eased to a 5-0 victory over Slovakia in Seville.

That result clinched second place in Group E for Spain, who move forward to a last-16 clash with Croatia in Copenhagen on Monday afternoon.
