Anfield remains a fortress in Klopp's 600th league game

Liverpool marked Jürgen Klopp's 600th league match as a manager by extending both their 100 per cent start to the season and lengthy unbeaten run at Anfield.

Klopp reached the dugout milestone against Southampton on Saturday, with that total accumulated from spells with FSV Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and the Reds.

The German has won almost half of those games – overseeing 296 victories – with 158 draws and 146 defeats.

The 3-0 success against Saints, achieved courtesy of a Wesley Hoedt own goal and further first-half efforts from Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah, increased Liverpool’s unbeaten streak at Anfield in the Premier League to 24 matches (won 16, drawn eight).

That represents their best such run since August 2009 – 31 games.

This is the third time that Liverpool have won six consecutive league fixtures to start a top-flight campaign, having also done so in 1978-79 and 1990-91.

However, they have never before been victorious in each of their first seven matches in all competitions from the beginning of a new season.

Salah has been directly involved in 41 goals in 31 appearances at Anfield since signing for the Reds last summer from AS Roma – 30 goals and 11 assists.

The Reds have now scored each of the past 23 league goals recorded at Anfield. 751 minutes of Premier League football have been played at the stadium since a visiting team last hit the net, Michail Antonio’s strike for West Ham United in February.
