'He's very chilled - but assertive' - LFC quotes of the week

Giving Jürgen Klopp a welcome headache, adapting to life at Liverpool and fond farewells feature in our round-up of LFC quotes from the past week…

“I feel very good and very fit - I want to play every single game. Obviously that’s not going to happen, I’m sure, and you need to rotate to be successful with the amount of games we have.

“But as long as I’m performing every time I step onto the field and making it as difficult as possible for the manager to leave me out of the side, I can’t do any more than that.”

James Milner may be an elder statesman of the Reds’ dressing room, but the 32-year-old - an outstanding performer in last Sunday’s 4-0 win over West Ham United - is determined to be at the heart of Klopp’s plans this season.

“It’s a different playing style than at Monaco; there were two of us in midfield there and here at Liverpool there’s three. My midfield partners have given me guidance and assistance, as have the defence. I knew [my role] would change and I feel I’ve adapted well.”

Fabinho, who could make his competitive Liverpool debut at Crystal Palace on Monday, is satisfied with how his transition to Klopp’s style is going.

-----

“It was a pleasure to play with you @ragnar.klavan17. I wish you all the best in your new club. You will be missed in our dressing room.”

Dejan Lovren says goodbye to Ragnar Klavan, who left Anfield for Italian club Cagliari on Friday.

-----

“I was buzzing for him but obviously it is difficult to see him go. Everyone is missing him already. But it’s a great move for him to go back home and be around where he is from, as well as going to a club like Southampton. It’s great for him.”

Danny Ings’ move to Southampton left Joe Gomez with mixed emotions.

-----

“Yes, the start was good but that’s already done, if you want. The feeling around the club is good [and] a big part of that are the performances and the results we got in the last few months. That’s what we have to do again and again and again.”

Klopp is enjoying the mood of positivity around Anfield - and has set his sights on following up the opening-day win over West Ham with another three points at Selhurst Park.

-----

“Naby, we all have no clue how good he can be. He's too young to judge him. What can we say?”

The boss feels the sky is the limit for Naby Keita, who impressed on his Reds debut against the Hammers.

-----

“He is very chilled - but assertive. He is obviously a dominant presence, everyone can see that. It’s nice to play alongside him and we get along well, on the pitch we communicate. And it helps - it’s one of the key things. Hopefully I can continue to learn and progress and he is obviously a good role model, by watching and trying to soak up everything. He is obviously a top, top player.”

More from Gomez, this time on playing alongside Virgil van Dijk.
