Roberto Firmino: We fear no team in the quarter-finals

Next Friday’s Champions League quarter-finals draw holds no fear for Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool rubber-stamped their place in the last eight with a 0-0 draw with FC Porto at Anfield on Tuesday night, with that tie having effectively been won three weeks earlier thanks to their eye-catching 5-0 first-leg victory in Portugal.

Despite their stalemate with Sergio Conceicao’s side, the Reds remain the most prolific team in the 2017-18 Champions League with 28 goals scored in their eight matches in the tournament proper.

Furthermore, Barcelona are the only other club to boast an unbeaten record in this season’s competition.

And Firmino believes Liverpool can progress further regardless of who they are paired with in next week’s draw for the last eight.

“We feel we have played well against the top English clubs. We are not afraid of anyone in the draw,” the Reds’ No.9, whose tally of seven goals in eight Champions League appearances this campaign is bettered only by Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, said.

“We are not concerned who we get, we don’t mind. A top Spanish club? We are not afraid. I don’t think we have anything to fear from any side now.

“If you are in the draw then you cannot be afraid of anyone. We feel we can beat any side on our day. I think we are a team who will cause problems to others.

“We are a good team, we can play against the big Spanish teams and we feel we can be a match for them. You have to play against the big teams.”

Porto became the first side to stop Liverpool from scoring in the Champions League this term on Tuesday - but Firmino is not unduly concerned by that fact.

“We did everything we could to score,” the Brazil forward continued.

“There were chances, we played well and should have won the game. I don’t think it’s a problem if you play well and don’t score when you are creating chances.

“I would like to have scored, yes. But we are through, we are in the quarter-final, we have another round and we are playing well. We have scored a lot of goals and we are confident.”
