Steven Gerrard on 'special' Anfield winner and title race hopes

Steven Gerrard revelled in the 'special feeling' of yet another Kop-end winner after snatching a 3-2 victory for Liverpool FC Legends against Milan Glorie.

The Reds icon dispatched a low shot into the bottom left corner with a minute remaining of the LFC Foundation charity match on Saturday.

It was the perfect conclusion to an afternoon that saw more than 50,000 fans flock to Anfield to witness a host of greats face off once again.

“It’s always a special time to come to Anfield, especially when it’s full, and just put the kit on,” said Gerrard after the full-time whistle.

“To play against Milan with all my ex-teammates, and to get the winner, is obviously a special feeling. Thanks to everyone for coming out and supporting all the boys.

“It’s amazing. As soon as you get the invite you can’t wait for the day.

“The lads give up their free time – they could be with their families elsewhere but they want to come here for a good cause and to entertain the supporters. Well done to all the lads.”

Gerrard took a brief pause from his maiden season managing Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premiership to return to Anfield and participate in the charity occasion.

And while his attentions are firmly on his own club’s fortunes, the former Liverpool No.8 admitted he is cheering on the Reds in their pursuit of the Premier League title.

“Believe me, I’m still feeling the pressure!” he said.

“It’s in the back of my mind; I’ve got a day job now and all my focus is obviously on Rangers, but I’ve got one eye on Anfield and I just hope the lads can go and get us over the line because I’d be the happiest man in the world.”
