Brendan Rodgers hopes to beat Borussia Dortmund to the signing of Belgium's World Cup striker Divock Origi by agreeing to loan him back to Lille.
The Germans have emerged as serious rivals to the Reds as both clubs look to tie up an £11million deal.
Dortmund chief Jurgen Klopp has spent £25m beefing up his strike force already this summer, adding Ciro Immobile from Torino and Adrian Ramos from Hertha Berlin to his squad. But he is in the market for a pacy forward and it appears Origi would favour a move to Germany rather than Liverpool.
So Rodgers has tried to change the Lille forward's mind by offering him a season-long loan back to the French club.
Origi has been a revelation in Brazil, helping Belgium through to Saturday's World Cup quarter-final defeat by Argentina.
