Reports suggest Liverpool have made contact with Manchester City regarding the future of their out of favour defender Micah Richards.
The right-back has fallen down the pecking order for a place in City's defence after seeing the Premiership Champions spend a lot of money to strengthen their squad.
Richards has been told that he can leave the Manchester club this summer and Liverpool are in pole position to sign the England international.
The Reds are back in the Champions League next season and Rodgers has been busy strengthening his squad, but he is yet to add quality to his defensive options and the defender would be a perfect signing to give the Liverpool manager more quality in defence.
Richards is primarily a right-back but he can also play in the centre of defence and his versatility has encouraged Rodgers to make a move.
Personally I think he would be a great signing for Liverpool and would give Glen Johnson stiff competition for the right-back berth after the England international was inconsistent last year.
Richards is at the stage of his career where he needs the chance to play regular football and a move to Anfield would be perfect.
