Liverpool have opened talks with Bayern Munich over the summer signing of Xherdan Shaqiri, according to reports in Germany.
German newspaper Bild claims the Reds are willing to offer £16m for the Swiss international as boss Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his squad ahead of the coming campaign.
The 22-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place in Pep Guardiola's side, making just 10 starts in the Bundesliga last term, with injuries not helping his cause.
But despite his current status within the squad, Bayern are said to view Shaqiri as the long-term successor to Franck Ribery and are reluctant to part with the midfielder.
However, Liverpool are confident of their chances of sealing a move for the former Basle player, who will want to leave the Allianz if he cannot be guaranteed regular first-team football.
