Liverpool are hoping to hijack Manchester United's move for Juventus star Arturo Vidal by matching their £42.5million bid for the player.
United have made Vidal their top transfer target this summer and reports today suggested that the club were confident of landing him with a mega bid.
However, the Chilean press now report that Liverpool have firmly entered the race for the player and are set to lodge an offer worth £42.5million.
El Mercurio says Real Madrid are also in for the player but don't have the funds to make a deal happen, leaving just Liverpool and United in the race.
The Reds have the advantage of offering Champions League football, which could prove to be pivotal in the race for the player.
