Brendan Rodgers has stepped up his search to find Jamie Carragher's successor by running a personal check on Holland international Stefan De Vrij.
Liverpool's manager flew to Rotterdam yesterday to watch the highly-rated De Vrij captain Feyenoord to a 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven.
The 21-year-old central defender has been on Rodgers' radar for a number of months.
Scouts from Newcastle were also in the crowd to watch De Vrij, who has 18 months left on his current contract.
