Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is making a shock move for Middlesbrough's Australia World Cup keeper Brad Jones - to put pressure on Pepe Reina.
The Kop chief has made an official inquiry about Jones's availability and would like him to join as soon as possible as he covers his Spanish number one.
Jones is interested in the move and knows that Hodgson is a long-term fan because he tried to take him to Fulham earlier in the summer.
Hodgson faces a fight with Boro over the capture as Gordon Strachan wants to keep him despite the local fans turning on him during last season.
