Liverpool are ready to follow a deal for Adam Lallana by bringing Lazar Markovic to Anfield from Benfica in a £25m swoop, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds' long-running pursuit of Southampton's captain looks to have come to a successful close yesterday as he travelled to Merseyside for a medical following his return from World Cup duty with England.
However it seems that Brendan Rodgers is not done there in terms of attacking additions, with 20-year-old Serbian Markovic also on his radar.
The youngster has been extensively scouted by the Premier League runners-up in recent months, and was originally mooted as an alternative to Lallana.
But even with the 26-year-old due to complete the formalities of his switch over the weekend, Rodgers is keen to get the starlet through the door as well.
Markovic is valued at around £25m after emerging as one of Portuguese football's top talents, yet that has not put Liverpool off as they plot to build a squad capable of competing with Manchester City and Chelsea for the title again next term.
The pursuit of the Eastern European is understood to be an indication that Swiss World Cup star Xherdan Shaqiri is no longer a target, but defensive duo Dejan Lovren and Alberto Moreno remain on the club's radar.
