Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are in a three-way battle to sign Mateo Kovacic from Inter Milan this summer.
Reports in Italy suggest that the trio of clubs all sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old in action at the tail end of this season.
The youngster hasn't always been happy with his playing opportunities at Inter, but he has apparently shown enough in his first full season at the club to attract interest from across Europe.
German club Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be closely monitoring Kovacic and would love to take him to the Bundesliga.
But despite some difficulties settling at Inter following a move from Dinamo Zagreb, new Nerrazzuri owner Erick Thohir sees Kovacic as one for the future and is very reluctant to see him leave.
And it seems that the youngster - who could end up costing Inter £12.5m when all is said and done - is seemingly on the same page.
Kovacic said recently: "The press have to write something. I may be young but I have learned so far that journalists must speculate on something every day.
"But all that is not a burden for me. I have a contract until 2017 and my future is with Inter.
"I'm really happy that I'm part of such a great club.
"So all I'm thinking right now is how to become better player, how to help my team to get much better results.
"I'm young, so I have a lot of time. And I'm still adapting.
"But I'm happy and also everybody at Inter are happy with me. And that counts the most to me."
