Lazar Markovic could be confirmed as a Liverpool player in the next 48 hours after flying to England for a medical.
A £25m deal was agreed earlier this week and it seems that the Serbian winger only needs to go through some bureaucratic formalities before being unveiled.
Markovic reported for pre-season training in Lisbon on Monday as required but has now left the Benfica squad bound for Merseyside.
Yesterday Serbia coach Ljubinko Drulovic appeared to give the move his blessing and told Liverpool fans they were signing a player with immense potential.
He said: "It'll be good for him and Benfica."Going to a very strong league will help him even more to become a major player worldwide.
"He's 20 years old and has a long time to play. Markovic could prove to become a very important player in Europe."
Liverpool are also hoping to sign Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi in coming days - although Tottenham are trying to hijack a move for the latter.
