Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes is set to undergo a medical at Liverpool next month.
Valdes is a free agent after his contract at the Nou Camp expired at the end of last season.
The 32-year-old is currently recovering from cruciate knee surgery but is expected to be fit in October.
And Express Sport understands Valdes will undergo a medical at Melwood next month ahead of his mooted switch to Anfield.
Should Liverpool sign Valdes and want to play him before January, they will will have to apply for permission to include him in their Premier League squad.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers wants the Spain international to rival No.1 Simon Mignolet, who has been inconsistent since his move from Sunderland.
Anfield officials are confident Valdes will pass any medical tests and sign a deal with Liverpool.
