Liverpool are looking to steal a march on their Premier League rivals by making an offer for Southampton star Adam Lallana.
Lallana has been instrumental for the Saints this season and is expected to be a key part of Roy Hodgson's World Cup plans this summer.
But his club future is uncertain with plenty of interest coming Southampton's way.
And the Reds have made the first move in a bid to land Lallana early.According to the BBC, Liverpool have lodged a bid for the Saints skipper.
Lallana revealed his desire to play Champions League football before his side's 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.
"I'm ambitious. I want to one day play in the Champions League," he said in his pre-match programme notes.
United are keen on the 26-year-old, while City and Chelsea have also been linked with the midfielder.
