Liverpool are set to revive their interest in Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez after a move for Sevilla's Alberto Moreno stalled.
Reports in Italy suggest that Fiorentina are keen on signing the Swiss international fullback but Liverpool could yet enter the race for the player.
Rated at £12m, the 21-year-old would represent a substantially cheaper option than Moreno, although Liverpool are also investigating a move for Ajax defender Daley Blind.
Brendan Rodgers had Rodriguez watched numerous times last season - when he scored five times and grabbed nine assist - and contemplated making an offer in January.
While he ultimately decided against the move an impressive showing at the World Cup could persuade Rodgers that Rodriguez has what it takes to play at Anfield next term.
Liverpool remain hopeful that a move for Moreno can be revived despite Sevilla ending talks today.
It now remains to be seen whether the reported interest in Rodriguez and Blind is genuine or simply a negotiating tactic to get Sevilla back to the table to talk about Moreno.
