JOHN BARNES has implored Liverpool to do all they can to sign Southampton ace Adam Lallana.
Southampton are holding out for a fee of £30million while Liverpool as it stands are refusing to budge from their take-it-or-leave-it £25m offer.
The Reds have raided the Saints once to bring Rickie Lambert to Anfield and Brendan Rodgers has already expressed a desire to make "multi dimensional" signings that can compete in both the Premier League and Champions League next term.
And Barnes thinks Lallana would be a perfect addition for Liverpool should they pull off a move for him.
"They need more strength in depth," he told the Liverpool Echo.
"Especially in terms of the back four and defensive midfield players. You need a well rounded squad for the Champions League.
"I like Lallana and he can play a number of different roles. He can play behind a frontman, he can play wide, he can play central.
"Of course he's English which is good. Brendan is trying to implement this British thread throughout the team which I believe in.
"I think he would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool."
