Liverpool look set to pip Arsenal to the signing of Spanish right-back Javier Manquillo.
The Gunners were thought to be close to landing Manquillo on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid.
But according to reports in Spain, Liverpool are now poised to sign the 20-year-old.
Spanish sports paper AS claim Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has convinced Manquillo to move to Anfield ahead of the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger has brought in Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle to replace Bacary Sagna, with Carl Jenkinson expected to be his deputy.
That has left the path clear for Manquillo to move to Merseyside, having already rejected Getafe, Rayo Vallecano and Marseille.
It remains uncertain whether Manquillo is leaving Atletico on a permanent or temporary basis.
