Liverpool are closing in on the £20m signing of Dejan Lovren from Southampton.
The Croatian international has long been identified by Brendan Rodgers as his top defensive target this summer, after an impressive debut season at St Mary's.
The Reds had a bid turned down by Saints earlier this month, but Liverpool's persistence, coupled with the player's desire to move to Merseyside, means the deal is now likely to go through this week, with Lovren expected to join Liverpool's pre-season tour of the USA.
It promises to be a busy week in the transfer market for the Reds, who are also set to complete an £8m swoop for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy in the next few days.
Lille frontman Divock Origi is also expected to sign, in a £10m deal, though he is likely to be loaned back to the French club.
Their pursuit of Ben Davies, however, looks to be over, with the Swansea City left back on the brink of joining Premier League rivals Tottenham.
