Liverpool have ruled out making a move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku or Swansea's Wilfried Bony after missing out on Loic Remy.
It was suggested they would turn to Lukaku or Bony as Reds boss Brendan Rodgers looks for another striker.
Lukaku is available for transfer with Everton leading the race for his signature after Toffees boss Roberto Martinez was caught on camera saying he was confident of doing a deal.
However Liverpool will not be rivalling them for his signature, nor will they be making a move for Bony, who bagged 25 goals for the Swans last season.
Instead they are planning another raid on Southampton following the captures of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, and will attempt to lure Jay Rodriquez away from St Mary's.
