Liverpool are reportedly in pole position to sign versatile defender Micah Richards after he was put up for sale by Manchester City.
Richards has struggled for game time over the last two seasons due to injuries which have resulted in him slipping down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.
The 26-year-old and City have both agreed the time has come for him to move on and several clubs are said to have taken an interest.
Arsenal and Newcastle were heavily linked with the English defender previously but their interest is said to have waned, leaving Liverpool in the driving seat to snap him up.
City may be reluctant to sell to one of their rivals but with one year left on his current contract and certain UEFA-enforced sanctions to meet, they may be forced to let him go to Anfield.
