Atletico Madrid have 'confirmed Liverpool's interest' in full back Sime Vrsaljko, according to reports in Italy.

The 25-year-old full back is a regular Croatian international but has struggled to get into Diego Simeone's side, making just four league appearances in a campaign interrupted by injury.

Having mooted supposed interest from Jurgen Klopp earlier in the week, Corrierre dello Sport now go one step further, claiming Atletico director of football Andrea Berta has told of the Reds' desire to sign the former Sassuolo man.

Though predominately a right back – a position in which Liverpool have two of the hottest properties in English football, as well as Nathaniel Clyne – Vrsaljko can also operate as a left back.

The story suggests the Spanish club have placed a 25million euros price tag on the defender, who joined Atleti in 2016.

Simeone recently spoke about Vrsaljko's future amidst speculation over his long-term plans.

"Sime is a big player and all big players have a value," he told Marca.

"We are happy when other clubs look at our players, this is normal and it is positive for us.

"The truth is Sime has been injured and when he has played for us he has done very well, but it is a fact that Juanfran has done superbly also."
