Liverpool have reportedly tabled a bid for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.

The attacking midfielder is highly rated at the Bernabeu, with Zinedine Zidane planning a big future for the 21-year-old.

Asensio earned 23 appearances on Madrid’s route to the La Liga title.

And he was also introduced off the bench in the Champions League final against Juventus, scoring the last goal in the 4-1 win in Cardiff.

Asensio has subsequently attracted attention from around Europe, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Roma all having been credited with interest.

However, Liverpool have apparently made a bold move for the Spain international.

According to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, the Reds have offered just over £43million for Asensio.

It is said the rising star has a number of suitors.

But Jurgen Klopp’s side face a real battle to convince Madrid they should sell.

The Bernabeu outfit are reluctant to lose Asensio, who has just finished his first full season in the team.

He spent his first two years out on loan following his arrival from Majorca, having cost under £3.5m.

Asensio is tied down until 2020, with a long-term future at Madrid in prospect.

Liverpool are looking to spend big this summer, but could be left disappointed by Madrid in their pursuit of Asensio.

The Merseyside club meanwhile are looking to agree a deal with Roma for their top attacking target Mohamed Salah, and talks are also said to have begun with Sporting Lisbon over Gelson Martins.
