Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Roma midfielder Mohamed Salah, according to reports in Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the 24-year-old’s agent is in England and has already reached an agreement with Liverpool and it’s now up to Roma whether to sell.

The report also claims that Salah has told friends that he has the chance to return to the Premier League.

Liverpool’s main issue is now to settle on a transfer fee with Roma. The Serie A club are demanding €35 million (£30.4m) but are open to selling the winger as his contract expires in 2019 and a renewal this summer would prove costly.

Roma are also already lining up a replacement in Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp is desperate to improve his options in the wide attacking areas and Salah would fit the bill following his impressive season in Italy.

The Egypt international scored 15 goals and registered 11 assists to help Roma finish second in Serie A.

Salah’s potential move to Liverpool would be his second time in the Premier League after his unsuccessful stint at Chelsea.

Salah was signed by Chelsea for £11 million in January 2014 but made only 19 senior appearances before being eventually sold to Roma last year.
