Liverpool's chances of signing Joe Hart from Manchester City are described as "slim to none" by sources close to the situation.

The Reds are being linked with a shock summer 2017 move for the England goalkeeper, with current first-choice Loris Karius already coming under severe scrutiny.

But insiders have insisted the Kop outfit will be given zero encouragement by the Citizens. Hart is currently on a 12-month loan at Torino and is keeping all of his options open.

The 29-year-old has no future at the Etihad Stadium but would be open to a move back to the Premier League. City, however, will not countenance a deal with a direct rival and will only consider lowering their present £25million valuation for a club outside of the considered top eight.

A discount would also apply for teams on the continent although Hart's present £120,000-a-week wages are widely seen as a major barrier. Liverpool and City have had awkward transfer relations in the last couple of seasons which could also be a factor.
