Manchester City and Liverpool are preparing to go up against each other in the race to sign Schalke's Sead Kolasinac, according to Sport Bild.

Both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are keen to add to their full-back options in the January transfer window and have marked the 23-year-old as a prime target.

Kolasinac, who can also operate in a central midfield role, is out of contract in the summer and can therefore begin negotiations with clubs outside of Germany in the new year.

Everton, Stoke and West Ham are also said to be watching the Bundesliga left-back, though City and Liverpool, as well as Serie A side Roma, are thought to be leading the chase.

Kolasinac has scored twice and registered four assists in his eight league starts for Schalke this season.
