Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has reportedly entered into talks over a return to Anfield to take up a coaching position.

The iconic ex-England midfielder left the Merseyside outfit in January of 2015 and has gone on to score five goals in 36 appearances for LA Galaxy in the States.

According to the Daily Express, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has now paved the way for Gerrard to move back to Liverpool and negotiations are already in place.

It’s understood the 36-year-old will leave LA Galaxy at the end of the current MLS campaign.

Gerrard’s potential role at Liverpool is not yet known but the reports will no doubt excite supporters who have been calling for the club legend to make a return.

‘Steven Gerrard – and this will be a really big surprise – is always so welcome at Liverpool, Klopp recently stated.

‘Everything we will talk to each other about will stay in these talks. That is how I know Stevie and that is how I am.’
